Tim Schwanger sworn in to Sandusky City Commission

Tim Schwanger was sworn in as a Sandusky city commissioner at the commission's Sept. 14 meeting, three weeks after he officially took office.

Schwanger, a Sandusky native and graduate of the city's high school, fills the seat vacated by Luvada Wilson, who resigned in August citing health concerns. He took office Aug. 25, and the Sept. 14 ceremony was the formal swearing-in.

Why Schwanger got the seat

Schwanger ran in the November 2025 general election and finished fourth. Voters elect the top three finishers. Under the city charter, the highest vote-getter who wasn't elected is first in line when a vacancy opens.

Commission President Kate Vargo welcomed him, saying the commission looks forward to working with him on behalf of residents.

Back on the ballot in 2027

The appointment runs only until the next election. In November 2027, voters will choose four commissioners to full four-year terms and one to a two-year term, which finishes the term Wilson was elected to serve.
