Erie County sheriff raises FBI fingerprinting fees

The office lists $39 for an FBI check and $73 for combined state and federal checks effective Oct. 1. Appointments are required.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office lists higher fees for civilian fingerprinting involving FBI background checks, effective Oct. 1.

A dated notice on the office's fingerprinting page sets the FBI check at $39 and a combined Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and FBI check at $73.

An older paragraph on the same page still lists $36 and $70, respectively. Call the office to confirm the amount before obtaining payment.

Electronic fingerprinting requires an appointment and is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., except government holidays and the day after Thanksgiving. Call 419-625-7951, ext. 6256, to schedule.

Applicants must bring a valid government-issued photo ID, the required background-check reason code and the mailing address for results. Payment must be a certified bank check or money order payable to the Erie County Sheriff's Office; cash, credit cards and personal checks are not accepted.

The office is at 2800 Columbus Ave. in Sandusky. Civilian fingerprints are taken in the concealed handgun licensing office.
